About

Why Remedy Healer Exists

Remedy Healer was built on a simple belief: that the world’s great traditions of natural medicine — Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Sri Lanka’s own Hela Wedakama — deserve to be shared with clarity, honesty and the deep respect they have earned over centuries.

Our founder

Dr. Nanda Wickramasinghe

Former Secretary, Ministry of National Heritage, Sri Lanka · Archaeological & Cultural Scholar

Remedy Healer was founded by Dr. Nanda Wickramasinghe, one of Sri Lanka’s most distinguished scholars in archaeology, cultural heritage and traditional knowledge. As the former Secretary of the Ministry of National Heritage, she spent decades at the intersection of government policy, indigenous scholarship and the preservation of Sri Lanka’s ancient cultural and healing traditions.

Dr. Wickramasinghe’s engagement with traditional medicine is inseparable from her life’s work. Sri Lanka’s healing heritage — Hela Wedakama — is woven into the same fabric as its architecture, language and spiritual traditions: it cannot be understood without understanding the civilisation that produced it. That integrated perspective, rare among wellness educators, is what sets Remedy Healer apart.

Her motivation for founding this platform was straightforward: millions of people worldwide search daily for natural wellness guidance, yet too few resources are grounded in genuine traditional scholarship. The internet is full of wellness content produced without cultural understanding or historical depth. Remedy Healer was built to be different.

Our perspective

Sri Lanka sits at the confluence of ancient healing traditions. Its own system, Hela Wedakama, draws on indigenous plant knowledge that predates written history and shares many healing plants with Ayurveda — turmeric, ginger, neem, ashwagandha — yet carries its own distinct philosophy rooted in the island’s ecology, climate and culture. Dr. Wickramasinghe’s scholarship allows Remedy Healer to represent these traditions authentically rather than as simplified approximations.

We also draw on Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine — two of the world’s most documented and studied natural healing systems — always noting where traditions differ, where evidence exists, and where further research is needed.

What we believe

Tradition deserves scholarship, not simplification

Ancient healing systems were not folk superstition; they were rigorous bodies of knowledge developed over generations. We present them with the depth they deserve, and are careful not to reduce them to marketing slogans.

Natural is not the same as risk-free

Every guide on Remedy Healer includes cautions, potential interactions and clear guidance on when to consult a doctor. Natural remedies complement modern healthcare — they are not a substitute. We never overstate a claim.

Accessibility is part of the mission

The knowledge held in these traditions should be available to anyone, not just scholars or practitioners. Every guide is written to be clear, practical and useful — wherever in the world you are.

The Sri Lankan connection

Sri Lanka sits at the heart of Remedy Healer’s perspective. The island’s own healing tradition — Hela Wedakama — predates written history and uses many of the same herbs found in Ayurveda and TCM. This convergence reflects the shared human experience of learning to live well with the natural world. We are proud to include this often-overlooked tradition alongside the better-known systems.
